Frequently Asked Questions
Bellydance Classes
1. Do I need any dance experience?
Not for my beginners class 7:30pm on Zoom Mondays (or request the video) These classes are designed for beginners, and all movements are broken down step by step so you can learn at a comfortable pace.

2. What should I wear to class?
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in, such as leggings, yoga pants, or a skirt with a top. Many students like to wear a hip scarf to help see and feel the movements, but it’s not essential.

3. What are the benefits of bellydance?
Bellydance is a wonderful way to improve posture, strengthen the core, increase flexibility, and boost confidence. It’s also a joyful and creative way to exercise while connecting with your body.

4. Do I need to be a certain age, shape or fitness level?
Bellydance is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, for my classes I prefer over 12 years of age. All shapes and bodies are suitable for this dance which is one of the reasons why I love it so much! All movements can be adapted and you are always encouraged to work at your own pace.

5. Will I have to perform?
No. Performing is completely optional. Some students enjoy the opportunity to perform at student showcases or events, but you can simply attend classes for fun and fitness if you prefer.

6. What happens in a typical class?
Classes begin with a gentle warm-up, followed by isolation moves (using one part of your body without involving another). Technique is where I breakdown how to do the moves, and them moves with others layered over (hips with arms for example) Sometimes we will put the moves into a short combination or sequence. We finish with a short cool-down and stretch.

7. Is bellydance a good workout?
Yes! Bellydance engages the core, hips, and upper body while improving coordination and balance. It’s a low-impact form of exercise that is both fun and toning.

8. Do I need special shoes?
Most bellydance classes are done barefoot or in soft dance shoes. This helps you connect with the floor and move more comfortably. If you won't slip on your flooring socks are fine. (wear ones with grips if your floor is smooth)

9. Is bellydance suitable during pregnancy?
Gentle belly dance can be a lovely way to stay connected to your body during pregnancy. However, every pregnancy is different, so please check with your doctor or midwife before attending class.
